Sonsoles joined ETC-UMA as Communication officer to support the establishment of a two-way communication channel with the scientific community, promoting an effective communication of ETC-UMA´s outcomes and the establishment of a strong science-policy interface particularly on biodiversity protection and sustainable development.

Regional networking with major international and regional institutions, government agencies, civil society organizations, the scientific community and the public at large has been the basis for her work. Her professional experience has involved the coordination, production and edition of contents for offline and online corporate and scientific publications and diverse communication materials i.e. newsletters, press releases, websites, videos, microsites and documentation platforms, watching for compliance with institutional quality control standards and visual identity rules. She has also been responsible for supporting the Directors and various departments e.g. Corporate Citizenship Europe, Mediterranean Corporate Development, Terrestrial Ecosystems, Marine, North Africa and Species programme team members in the organization of promotional products and events across the Mediterranean, including monitoring media coverage, press and media relations.

A philologist and translator by training, Sonsoles has been working in English, Spanish and French for international organizations since 1995. She commenced her career at the European Foundation Centre in Brussels, moving to work for IUCN Mediterranean in 2004 in Malaga. She is also the author of various articles in the magazines of the Spanish Ministry of Environment and Andalusia’s government, and has been responsible for IUCN institutional yearly reporting at Mediterranean level from 2006 to 2015. She pursues her career also as an independent editor and consultant on multilingual publications.
